1945-1954 Wing Badge

This was the first large nameplate Gillig used on their buses, beginning in ca. 1954. These were a thin, stamped chrome-plated metal, measuring 18 in. by 5.25 in.

1954-1965 Interior Oval

In 1954, Gillig redesigned their logo themed on an oval design. The first of three "Interior" nameplates consisted of a red 1/4" border set inside two chrome bands.

1966-1976 Interior Oval

In 1966 Gillig made a slight redesign to the interior nameplate. They no longer featured the red band, and were more simple in design.

1976-1982 Interior Oval

Following the renaming of the company in 1976 from Gillig Bros. to Gillig Corporation. all "Bros." indicia were removed from all nameplates. The interior one was slightly modified.

1954-1976 Exterior Oval

This is the 1954 redesign of Gillig's logo. Measuring 9.75 in. by 3x5, they were made of die-cast, chrome-plated white metal. The rim and lettering were chrome and the inside of the nameplate was painted in Ford Blue.

1976-1982 Exterior Oval

In 1976, Gillig dropped the "Bros." indicia from all corporate signage and the exterior nameplate received a slight redesign. Its dimensions were the same as the previous nameplate.

Current Gillig logo

In 1982, Gillig Corporation revealed an all-new corporate logo upon the debut of the Phantom. This logo is still in use today. The nameplate dimensions for this particular version are 15.75 in. by 4.5 in. It is remarkably heavy and made of the same stamped, chrome-plated white metal. Unlike the previous logos which were blue, the new logo for a time was black.

Seldom-used Phantom badge

Rarely used, this emblem is the same in size as the previous sample. These were used on the very first Phantoms, as well as the very first Phantom school buses. One is in the collection.
