ABOUT GILLIGCOACHES.NET

GilligCoaches.NET first began as an obscure, small site on GeoCities (then a community of themed-based websites), in March, 2001. The original website, then named "The Gillig Transit Coach Webpage," consisted of just a few pages and a small collection of images borrowed from a fellow bus enthusiast's website called "Crownbus.com." In fact, it was the latter that actually inspired this website.

Within a month, the website's title had changed to "The Gillig Transit Coach Archives" (a title which would remain until that following July), and had featured a greatly expanded historical archive. By then, the website's photo library had greatly expanded as well, including over three dozen photos from a large handful of contributors all over the west coast.

In July, 2001, the name of the website was changed yet again. The name change was due to a flood of new knowledge and the discovery of the fact that Gillig had bought out Kenworth's bus production assets in 1957. The new name of the site became "The Gillig Transit Coach/Kenworth Pacific SchoolCoach Resource."

Over the course of the next few years, The Gillig Transit Coach/Kenworth Pacific SchoolCoach Reasource grew exponentially in terms of photographic documentation, as well as a greatly expanded historical archive.

In the next several years that followed, continued growth of the website's photographic library and historical archives meant it was finally time for an official website domain name. After much thought, and poring over a dozen or so alternative names, "GilligCoaches.NET" was chosen. The domain went live in May, 2006. In December of that year, GilligCoaches.NET would buy its first Kenworth school bus, and a few years later, we would purchase our first Gillig under the GilligCoaches.NET umbrella. Both buses became a historical fleet which would make appearances at truck shows in the PNW as well as one local parade.

Sadly, those buses were lost due to uncontrollable circumstances in early 2011.

By 2012, GilligCoaches.NET's domain license had expired, followed by the website itself shortly thereafter. For many years, the only way to access the website was through a search of the Wayback Machine at Archive.org.

In late 2018, after a six year hiatus, GilligCoaches.NET returned to the internet, in a much improved format, and this time, it's here to stay!
